Hi – I’m Bella, a 7-year-old Chocolate Lab. It’s nice to meet you. Will you shake my paw? You can instantly become my friend if you feed me some sweet potato jerky – just an FYI. My life has changed a lot over the past couple of years since meeting my new Mum & Dad – Kate & Adam. I’m a spoiled little monkey – or at least that’s what they call me. My life has been exciting over the past couple of years with Mum & Dad. They’ve taken me on a lot of different adventures, fed me all sorts of delicious food that’s actually good for me and I even used to have 5 beds but I had to get rid of 4 of them.
My Beds
In our old house in the country, I had 5 beds. I guess that would qualify as being spoiled, right? Well, that’s ok – I think I deserve it. I had one bed in front of a big patio sliding door, another bed by a heater, a bed by Mum & Dad’s bed, and I used the couch and futon as beds – sometimes when I wasn’t supposed to.
I would go from bed to bed through the day while Mum & Dad worked. They would be gone for long hours when we lived in New Brunswick. I would get a big walk in the morning which allowed me to sniff around the woods and Mum would also play ball in the yard with me before they left for work. This would leave me exhausted and in need of an 8-hour nap on one of my 5 beds. My neighbour’s Paul, Tim and Susan would take turns coming over to wake me up around noon to let me out to go pee. It was a long day without Mum & Dad, and I didn’t like it but at least I could sleep – it’s exhausting being a Chocolate Lab. I got to the point that I knew if Mum was wearing jeans, that it was Friday, and I would be super happy on that day because I knew I would get to spend the weekend with them.
“Bella…we’re moving”
Late last year, Mum kept telling me we were going to full-time RV so that they could spend more time with me. I didn’t really know what this meant but it apparently meant that I had to give up 4 of my beds and downsize like they did. The one bed I gave to my neighbour, a handsome pit bull named Dirtbag. Yes – that was really his name. He was beautiful, though, and I loved him. My couch went to a friend, my futon was sold and my other bed was thrown out.
My Time in Summerside
I loved living in the countryside of New Brunswick, but I really liked the city of Summerside for the month we spent there. Mum & Dad would take me for big long walks and sometimes when they got ice cream they would share it with me. I got to run and play on the beach which was very exciting. I also learned to be patient on walks when Dad brought his camera. He often takes more than 10 minutes to take photos, and it can be hard for me to sit that long, especially when he’s not taking my picture. Mum tells me it’s good for me to learn new things like patience and how to act like a city dog around new friends. I slowly learned that in the city, I had to be less rambunctious around new dogs. City dogs are more reserved and dignified apparently which seems boring. I learned, though, but I was also bribed with mozzarella so it was worth it.
The Fifth Wheel
Now, we’ve moved again. We’re living in something that Mum & Dad call a fifth wheel. I’m not sure why it’s called a fifth wheel. There only seems to be four wheels that smell like pee from other dogs. Living in the fifth wheel is great because Mum & Dad spend a lot of time with me now. The downside is I now only have one bed but sometimes Mum & Dad let me up on theirs. Giving up my beds and my big house has been worth it so far. Mum & Dad are home a lot more and take me for lots of long walks on the trails at our campground. There also seems to be a lot of other dogs around which is exciting. My nose gets very tired from all of the bum sniffing that I do nowadays. Sometimes, I wish I had the whole park to myself. It’s great being able to spend more time outside, mainly because it means that I don’t have to be around the little terrorist kitty – Paris Frances. She’s so mean. She makes weird spitty noises at me when I try to sniff her bum. I don’t know why she gets so upset, she can sniff mine too – I don’t care.
I love living on PEI. I’m really glad Mum & Dad chose to spend the summer here. I love the smell of the ocean. I also love smelling mussel and crab shells. It’s really fun to also roll in dried out seaweed – what a perfect way to get rid of an itch! This summer is going to be a lot of fun. Mum & Dad tell me that we’re going to be going for lots of car rides and doing lots of adventures. I hope you come back to see where I go and what I do throughout the summer.
